Denying Gravity | Tuesday, Aug. 18, 2026, 1pm
See the one hour play about the risk of falls we all face through the story of one woman and the choices she makes. The play will be followed by a question & answer session with the Safe at Home team.
Workshop on Fall Recovery with GWU Hospital | Friday, Aug. 21, 2026, 1pm
Join us for this informative course on how to get up from a fall if it happens. The panel includes medical professionals from Safe at Home and George Washington University who will discuss ways to decrease your risk of falls, how to make a fall recovery plan, and what to expect if you do have to go to the hospital after a fall.
2025 Event Recap
Home Care Partners – Safe at Home and the DC Department of Aging and Community Living offered four events for Falls Prevention Awareness Week in partnership with Trinity Washington University, The George Washington University, the University of the District of Columbia, Howard University, and many other local groups and agencies.
Over 730 participants received screenings for balance, strength, vision, blood pressure, and medication. Educational sessions focused on home safety, environmental modifications, fall recovery, and exercise. AARP DC distributed free Files of Life to support emergency preparedness and healthy snacks. Everyone received a giveaway bag with useful items from our sponsors such as Get A Grip, GoGo Access, & HandyPro to take home with them. Over 30 raffle winners have also collected their winnings from sponsors such as Urban Poling, ResQUp, Whole Foods, Logan Hardware, Tonic & many more!
